The Many Steps Involved

In restoring your bible, the process involves two crafts. The bookbinding craft and leather crafting. First we prepare the "book" part of your bible by removing the old cover, saving the endpages for patterns and secure any loose pages. Then we strip the old binding and glue off, renewing the binding reglueing and reinforcing the spine. Next, we install new ribbon markers and end band along with endpages and leatherette pages to get it ready for the new cover. The leather cover process is as follows:
1. Select the piece to be cut.
2. Measure the bible precisely to the 16th of an inch.
3. Rough cut the leather
4. Wet leather with a special solution and let it dry.
5. Measure and cut the leather precisely.
6. Mark edges for skiving.
7. Skive leather edges.
8. Burnishing and stamping while leather is damp.
9. Dry leather.
10. Dye leather and dry.
11. Seal leather and polish.
12. Remark back side for folding and corners.
13. Cut and trim corners.
14. Glue edges and corners.
15. Press and dry.
16. Dress corner edges.
17. Attach leather cover to bible.
18. Put in press to dry overnight.
